Conflicts: Skunks carry rabies that they can transmit through a bite or scratch. Skunks will also give a warning before they spray by stomping their feet and raising their tail. If you see a skunk who is about to spray, retreat quietly and slowly. Avoid making loud noises and quick/aggressive movement.
Safety concerns: Skunks spray an odor that is pungent, nauseating, and can cause severe reactions in some individuals. Skunks damage turf when digging through soil, and they carry rabies.
Reproduction: Skunks mate in January, and have between 4-8 babies. Skunks can also live for up to 10 years.
